Coined the ‘new 18th century farmer florist’ in Amy Stewart’s NY Times bestseller Flower Confidential, I have always used sustainable and organic farming practices while growing my highly coveted unique cut flowers. If I don’t grow it myself, I outsource to our many local flowers farmers in the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area for local, seasonal and organically grown materials. We’re not just about Slow Flowers, but organic and/or sustainable grown too!
I do not like to use floral foam, and try to avoid it at all costs. It’s hazardous to the environment, and caustic to our lungs. I believe I have figured out a way to create my masterpieces without it. Hooray!
“A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.”
– Franklin D. Roosevelt
We are a Veriflora Certified Retailer, which means we source much of our flowers, greens and plants form Veriflora Certifed Farms. Why? We want to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and differentiate our floral business to a discerning environmentally aware consumer. Also, we want to support the folks who converted their farms from conventional to sustainable, creating an overall better business model for employees and environment.
